Well established and also rapidly growing construction firm known for their high-quality standards and diverse, inclusive culture is seeking a Payroll Director to supervise a team of managers and staff of payroll and benefits professionals. This post will manage the office and craft payrolls, and the union benefits of a large international multi-entity company.

Roles & Responsibilities of Payroll director:

  • Firstly, Monitor and provide guidance and leadership to payroll team managers
  • Secondly, Ensure that wages are paid in accordance with all the requirements of federal, state, possession or other legislation in the area of taxation and labor law
  • Thirdly, Ensuring timely and accurate reporting of certified payrolls, union benefits reports, and trades and office payrolls
  • Working with HR to ensure data accuracy, streamline processes, identify integration opportunities and provide effective communications
  • Work closely with financial, operational and personnel managers in 1) to understand issues when the company starts working in new geographical areas; 2) work closely with human resources on tax matters related to daily subsistence allowance, relocation, recruitment and other travel and relocation benefits; 3) changes to existing law.
  • Participation and understanding in maintenance, internal and external communication and day-to-day operations of the 401 k) and ESOPs
  • Engage with IT in developing reports and solving problems with Oracle
  • Participation in any implementation, development and migration of ERP if necessary
  • Lastly, Support for the review and due diligence process, as these are services also compensation and health and welfare issues of both the craft and office personnel

What we are looking for:

  • Bachelor in Accounting, Finance or Business Administration
  • Previous management experience, preferably in a large global company (6,000+ employees)
  • At least 10 years experience in a pay and/or employee benefit position for a union employer with multi-entity, multi-state and multi-national operations.
  • Critical Thinker and Strong Analytical Skills
  • Understanding of collective agreements, preferably with a multi-union entity
  • Understanding of qualified pension plans, including union plans, 401 (k) and ESOPs
  • A good understanding of daily expenses, travel and travel expenses, and other benefits associated with a growing company and the change of footprint
  • Ability to set priorities and manage multiple tasks, changing priorities as needed
  • Ability to work under temporary pressure and adapt to changing demands with a positive attitude
  • Ability to be self-motivated, proactive and an effective team player and to interact effectively and professionally with all employee levels
  • Capacity to travel up to 20%
