Direct hire employees are hired by the organization they’ll be working with. The organization handles all employment details like payroll and benefits, whether you’re brought on full-time or part-time. Your first interviews are with us. We share what we know about the organization and role and engage in a dialogue regarding your skillset and career goals. We then present you to the client and the interview process continues with them, coordinated by us. When an offer is made, we work to ensure both your and the client’s objectives are met.
Contract Employee Opportunities Across California
Contract employees are placed with an organization but are officially Merit HR employees. We handle payroll, benefits, and everything involved with your employment—except for the actual work you’re doing within the organization. Contracts vary in length with an average of 17 weeks. We have had contract assignments for multiple years in some cases. Organizations often opt for a Merit HR contract employee rather than a direct hire for staff augmentation for bandwidth (think covering a leave of absence) or a specialized skill set. We will never share your credentials until you review the role and organization, then give us permission to present you.

HR Consulting opportunities are high level and project based. Our consultants often have other clients as well and all possess deep subject matter expertise with the consultant in a meaningful role of managing and guiding the particular project. We work together to understand the need and develop the scope of work. Examples of common consulting projects include HR Assessments; Affirmative Action Plans; HRIS evaluation and implementation; and, Compensation Plan review or design, among others.
