We've Got the Teachers - They Need More Fellowships
We all know the importance of education in preparing tomorrow's workforce, and most of us in this part of the world are keenly aware of the importance of developing the science, technology, engineering and math (STEM) skills in students early if they are to qualify for our jobs of tomorrow.
Last January we wrote to you about the magic a local organization Industry Initiatives for Science and Math Education (IISME) works every year by creating partnerships between businesses and area teachers and coordinating fellowships for faculty to work on STEM related projects in organizations for the summer.
The interest among teachers to personally learn from these fellowships and take their experiences back into their classrooms to inspire students to explore careers in STEM fields continues to grow. In fact this year, just as the summer program starts to get underway, IISME has more teachers interested and prepared for fellowships than they have fellowships to support them.
We are writing to see if we can increase your interest or that of others you may know in providing a fellowship opportunity and thereby stepping up as a vital link to filling tomorrow's critical jobs.
If you, your company or any others in your networks rely on highly skilled employees to take your companies into the future, be part of the solution and contact Jennifer Bruckner or one of her staff at IISME now and find out how you can support an eager faculty member ready to translate the needs of your business into a classroom curriculum that may inspire one of your future employees.
We've got the teachers interested in helping, now we need more fellowships to help them help us all. Some companies who have recently stepped up point to their involvement as being part of their corporate social responsibility and community-relations strategies.
Won't you consider contacting IISME about a teacher fellowship today?
Best regards,
Rod
